20 March 2010 : Earth Hour 2010
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - March 20, 2010 - Leading web hosting provider, Shinjiru is renewing its effort in reducing carbon footprints by supporting Earth Hour 2010. Below is the written transcript of our CEO :
Dear All,
Once again Shinjiru will commit its corporate responsibility by supporting Earth Hour. For year 2010, on March 27th at 8.30pm, Shinjiru and the rest of its staff will be turning off all non-essential lightning for one (1) hour at our head office, branch office, command center and homes to support this global campaign.
Since its inception three years ago, Earth Hour’s non-partisan approach has captured the world’s imagination and became a global phenomenon. Nearly one billion people turned out for Earth Hour 2009 – involving 4,100 cities in 87 countries on seven continents.
Earth Hour symbolizes that by working together, each of us can have a positive impact in the fight against climate change, protecting our future and that of future generations. In year 2009, Shinjiru participated by hosting Malaysia Earth Hour website and turning off lightning for one (1) hour.
Throughout year 2009, we have been reducing the number of our old servers and converting customers to virtualization servers. Our Year 2009 report shows that we have managed to decommission 259 dedicated servers and move all the customers to 5 Virtualization Servers. A server consumes on average 200 watts plus another 50 watts for data center air-conditioning. So on a daily basis, the overall power consumption is:
(259-5) Servers x 250 watts x 24 hours = 1,524,000 watts or 1,524 kWh.
This produces a saving of 556,260 kWh per year. This is equivalent to carbon emissions from 914.4 barrels of oil consumed. This year we intend to do more by educating more customers on virtualization technology and continue our commitment to decommission old servers in our effort to reduce carbon footprints in the world.
We would like to invite all our customers, vendors, friends and everyone to join us in this important effort. All of us can reduce our carbon footprints to save our planet for future generation. Switch to energy saving bulbs, switch off unused electronic devices, car-pooling, recycling waste, reduce water wastage and use our own shopping bags. These are all good signs to show that we care about our lovely mother earth.
March 27th. 830 pm. Switch off and join us in making this world a better place. To both my lovely kids: Adele and Arden, remember that daddy will always be there to make the world a better place for you.
Yours Sincerely,
Shinjiru Group of Companies
